The Australian girl series is semi-fiction. The set has over twelve books, they’re always about a different girl but the girl is always a migrant or is set in a really difficult time to live in Australia.
Today I’m going to be focusing on one of my favourite books (of the series), Lina.
Lina is written by Sally Rippin and is very heartwarming, the way it’s written is very convincing and it’s like you can almost feel like you're in the novel. I think this is the perfect story for girls who want to read something that is based on semi-true events. It’s very easy to read and follow along. There are four books in each book but you can also buy smaller books first.
Lina is a young Italian girl who’s parents decided to move to Australia in the years of 1956. She has a very strong passion for writing but her parents want her to become a doctor or a lawyer. She’s thirteen and just wants to be fit in, she has to face constant bullying at school and try to stay strong for her family as they are also short on money. But then one day someone new comes and Lina thinks that maybe her life can be good and she can achieve her passion.
This book shows that no matter what obstacles you might have to face in life, don’t give up! Along with true friendship, laughs and maybe some cries along the way as well.
My star rating:
Appropriateness (course language, scary scenes, mature themes for children under 13) This book has no inappropriateness what so ever.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Progress: The progress in this story is not too fast and there are lots of events that happen, but not too fast.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Writing Style: The writing style is really good for children who aren’t quite ready for big books. The text is spread out nicely and not too overwhelming.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Plot: The plot is a good length and when the story ends it doesn’t feel like there should more it feels like the ends
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
