This is an AMAZING book and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read it! Chinese Cinderella ticks off so many boxes on my list. It’s funny, exciting, has many twists, and semi-fiction. I think it’s a really inspiring story to read. When reading this book you will notice that the writer includes all the Chinese words and all the original names in Chinese.
This book tells the story of a young girl who loses her mother at childbirth. Then her father starts dating a mean woman for couldn’t care less about CC. CC is Yen Xiens English name which stands for Chinese Cinderella. One day CC gets thrown out of her own house and onto the streets.
She around the age of ten has nowhere to go as her aunt is visiting her godmother, on top of that Japanese soldiers are taking over everything making the streets a more dangerous place. Luckily for CC, there is a group that may change everything for her life on the streets becoming a spy in the war….

This story is pretty appropriate for kids over the age of 10 as it does have a few bloody scenes there’s a plane crash and they describe the wounds. There are also guns and a few fighting scenes.

I think the plot is really cool the way the set it out making you want to read more and more.

Writing Style:
I love the writing style it’s very descriptive and detailed. Sometimes it might get a bit too detailed for younger kids.

The progress flows pretty well, there aren’t really any boring parts and not so much dialogue.

Overall I love this book and think that kids should definitely read this book. It’s so exciting to read and is actually inspired by the books that Adeline Yen Mah wrote as a young girl.
