kids. Her mother is the complete opposite and is a suffragette she sets up a secret school where she teaches Hanna and a pacific islander boy named Jamie who like Hanna wants to learn lots of stuff but is restricted because of his skin color. This book talks about sexism and racism in a very understandable way.
This is a fascinating book and is written so well even though lots of things are happening it's quite easy to follow and understand what is going on. There are some scenes that are not recommended for kids under the age of ten as they are a bit horrifying.

Appropriateness: This book should definitely not be given to anyone under the age of ten, it has some very mature scenes.

In conclusion, I think this book is great for preteens and anyone older. It's a great book for someone who loves semi-fiction and learning about life from 40 years ago.
