Percy Jackson - The lightning Thief - Rick Riordan

Writer's picture: Kjr BlogsKjr Blogs

The Percy Jackson series includes five books plus another five-book spin-off including Percy and his

friends. This book taught me a lot about Greek Gods and their Myths. It is filled with humour and is a must-read

Percy was just a normal kid living with his Mom and his crappy stepdad. That was until he vaporised his math teacher. Then Percy his Mum and his best friend Grover escape to a holiday cabin were a monster kills his mum, Percy then kills the beast. Grover takes Percy to half-blood hill where Percy discovers he is a demigod but not any old demigod he is the son of Posiden king of the oceans. He also discovers his best friend Grover is a Saytar. When Percy is accused of stealing Zeus’s lightning bolt is sent on a quest to go and find it, with the help of his friends Grover and Annabeth they must track down the lightning bolt or a fully fledged war of the gods will erupt.

This book is filled with humour and sly comments that will have you laughing it talks a fair bit about Greek history.

The five-star rating will be based on Kids 10- 14

Appropriateness: This book is meant for slightly older kids you will find the words crap and dumb it. There is a fair bit of violence and monsters involved in the story but nothing a child over the age of ten.

⭐⭐⭐

Plot: The plot is great and you never see what is coming.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Progress: This book moves at a decent pace it can get a bit slow at some points nut overall it has a good pace.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Readability: This book is not too hard to read and is very easy to follow along. It can get a bit hard when they start talking about Greek history.

⭐⭐⭐⭐
